Opposition MP: Armenian authorities seek to control political discourse
Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has commented on the recent raids at the homes of opposition figures, stating that the authorities are attempting to dominate the political agenda and tighten their grip on information flow.
“In my view, the so-called 'coup plan' disclosed by a pro-government news outlet on Tuesday and today’s searches indicate the authorities' attempts to dictate the public agenda and consolidate control over the political and media landscape,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
He also pointed to earlier incidents in which opposition activists were summoned by police for what were described as “conversations".
"The Armenian leadership is pushing low-grade narratives through thuggish posts and artificially inflated topics. Meanwhile, instead of addressing the growing crime rate in the country, the security services are being used as tools for the ruling regime’s political theatrics," the MP added.
