Hayastan faction condemns arrests of opposition activists

The Hayastan parliamentary faction on Wednesday issued a statement condemning the arrests of opposition figures over an alleged coup plot. The full text of the statement is provided below.

“The current authorities have overstepped all legal and moral boundaries. They have launched hostile attacks against the very foundations of our statehood – the Declaration of Independence, constitution, army, church and diaspora. They have surrendered Artsakh and are now attempting to stifle every voice of national resistance through deceit.

Hiding his criminal conduct, distracting the public from the real threats facing Armenian statehood and seeking to avoid accountability for his betrayal of the nation, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is now openly committing acts of political terror against the Armenian people.

Arbitrary arrests, searches and detentions continue under authoritarian rules. Fabricated charges and psychological intimidation tactics are being used to silence opponents, accompanied by contrived narratives about "planned crimes”. The government of evil can make such accusations not only against opposition figures and their supporters within Armenia, but also any Armenian around the world who is concerned about the fate of the homeland.

In these conditions, it is the duty of all dignified sons and daughters of the Armenian nation to unite and stop the current authorities – the biggest threat to the statehood of Armenia.

The most urgent task today is to prevent the establishment of complete dictatorship in Armenia, remove the current leaders from power and hold them accountable to restore the dignity of the country and people.

That day is coming.”
