Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the Holy Struggle movement, has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months.
Judge Masis Melkonyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction approved the motion for his detention last night.
His lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan announced plans to appeal the decision.
The archbishop was arrested on June 25 as part of an investigation into alleged attempts to commit terrorism and seize power. He has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism and inciting mass unrest.
Galstanyan's place of detention is expected to be clarified soon.
