Public transport fare dodgers to be fined in Yerevan

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has announced that passengers who evade fares on public transport will face fines.

"Dear citizens, the period of free travel on public transport is coming to an end. I want to issue a special warning now, so there won’t be any complaints later," Avinyan said during a working meeting at Yerevan City Hall on Monday.

The mayor revealed that the National Assembly will hold an extraordinary session on Tuesday to discuss a legislative package that includes penalties for passengers who use public transport without paying.

"We will first carry out an awareness campaign, but at a certain point, those who fail to pay for their ride will be fined," Avinyan added.
