Paper QR tickets to be phased out on Yerevan public transport

Starting August 1, the paper-based QR code tickets used in Yerevan’s public transport system will be gradually phased out, according to a statement from the Yerevan Municipality.

Originally introduced as a convenient option for occasional riders, these single-use QR code tickets have increasingly been used by daily commuters. However, the paper format has led to frequent technical issues, including poor QR code printing quality, which often prevents proper scanning. The disruptions have caused inconvenience for passengers and created broader operational challenges within the system.

Citing both technological and environmental considerations, city officials have decided to retire the paper QR tickets and shift to more reliable and user-friendly alternatives, including transport cards, contactless bank cards (issued by all Armenian banks except VTB) and a mobile application.

How to get a transport card

Transport cards can be obtained at the following locations:

• Metro station terminals or cashier booths
• Telcell service centers
• Information booths at Republic Square and France Square

Once you receive your card, you must link it to a preferred ticket package via:

• Telcell terminals or service points
