Yerevan State University (YSU) lecturer Eduard Galstyan, a government critic, has announced he received notice of his dismissal, set to take effect in two days.
“This would be a beautiful ending if I saw my role at the university as just a job,” Galstyan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. “But for me, being an academic has always been a mission.”
Galstyan claims that his dismissal is politically motivated. “Let’s not be naive; the real reason is my political and civic views,” he stated.
Galstyan is the founder of the Leonid Azgaldyan Combat Club and the Gevorg Arshakyan School of Knowledge at YSU, initiatives he says will continue regardless of the university’s decision. He also criticized those behind the dismissal, saying they now carry a “moral and legal responsibility” for their actions.
