Ombudsperson launches inquiry into search at opposition MP’s home and seizure of his phone

The Armenian Human Rights Defender’s (HRD) Office has launched an investigation into the search carried out at the residence of opposition MP Gegham Manukyan, as well as the seizure of his mobile phone. The inquiry was initiated based on information submitted to the office.

Later, the HRD hotline received additional reports from lawyers stating that a group of individuals, including the MP’s son, Taron Manukyan, had been detained and transferred to the Yerevan Investigation Department. According to the lawyers, they were being denied access to their detained clients.

In response, a rapid response team was dispatched to the Investigation Department.

“The matter is under the ombudsperson’s immediate attention. The HRD’s Office will provide further updates if necessary,” it said.
