Expert reveals who is most at risk from extreme heat

People with cardiovascular issues, endocrine disorders, chronic illnesses and obesity are at higher risk during hot weather, cardiologist and anesthesiologist-intensivist Anton Vakhlayev told RIA Novosti.

He noted that both underweight and overweight individuals are more susceptible to heatstroke. Children are particularly vulnerable due to their smaller body mass, which makes them heat up more quickly than adults.

Vakhlayev recommended simple preventive measures: wearing a hat, staying hydrated, keeping cool and balancing activity with rest. He also explained that heat causes blood vessels to dilate as the body tries to release excess heat.
