Corridor or crossroads? Much depends on legal frameworks, says Armenian MP

The so-called “Zangezur Corridor” is being promoted by Azerbaijan and Turkey not just through official statements, but also via published maps that clearly outline the proposed route through Armenia’s southern regions, specifically near the towns of Meghri and Agarak, adjacent to the Iranian border.

According to MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, the terminology – whether it's called a "corridor" or a "crossroads" – matters less than the legal underpinnings of the arrangement.

“Regardless of what it's called, everything will ultimately hinge on the legal frameworks in place,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Monday.

He pointed out that the current discussions suggest the logistics and management of the route would be handed over to a private company.

“This, in turn, raises critical questions about who is actually behind the company,” Abrahamyan said. “The overly optimistic rhetoric coming from Turkey and Azerbaijan, along with media leaks, already offers an insight into the true nature of the potential deal.”
