Artsakh rights council ends sit-in, plans departure from Yerevan Representative Office

The Council for the Protection of the Rights of Artsakh Armenians has announced the end of the sit-in, which began after a rally in Yerevan’s Liberty Square on Saturday, and its decision to vacate the Artsakh Representative Office in Yerevan.

Its member Apres Margaryan made the announcement at a protest outside the Armenian government building on Monday.

“We no longer consider it appropriate to continue our activities at the Artsakh Representative Office,” Margaryan told reporters after meeting with government officials. “The sit-in is over. We acknowledge that we do not have public support for street protests. The Council will now undergo reorganization.”

Margaryan noted that the Council includes MPs from all five factions of the Artsakh National Assembly, as well as community leaders. “We will soon release an official statement outlining the next steps,” he added.
