Armenian team wins silver medal at 57th International Chemistry Olympiad

From July 5 to 14, the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where Armenia’s national team earned one silver medal and three honorable mentions.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reports that the silver medal was awarded to Arman Khachatryan, a 12th-grade student from the Vanadzor Special School of Advanced Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Honorable mentions went to David Ghazaryan (12th grade, Quantum College), Sevada Harutyunyan (12th grade, Foton School, Gyumri), and Mikayel Aleksanyan (11th grade, Vanadzor Special School).

The competition included both theoretical and practical rounds. Armenia’s team was led by Andranik Davinyan, a researcher at the Center for Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Artyom Petrosyan, a student at Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Chemistry.

This year’s Olympiad brought together 355 students from 90 countries, with each country allowed up to four participants.

Armenia had won four bronze medals at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad.
