MP: Azerbaijan continues sham trials of Armenian prisoners amid 'constructive dialogue'

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has pointed to the contrast between Armenia’s official rhetoric and the ongoing judicial farce against Armenians in Azerbaijan.

“Against the backdrop of increasingly warm relations between Armenia’s leadership and the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem, the sham trials of Armenian prisoners continue in Baku,” the Pativ Unem faction MP wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

He emphasized that while the Azerbaijani authorities have officially acknowledged the detention of 23 Armenians, the actual number is believed to be significantly higher. “Since the 2020 war, numerous phone calls and social media posts have indicated that many more individuals remain in Azerbaijani-held territory,” Abrahamyan noted.

He further highlighted that the judicial processes in Azerbaijan are based on falsehoods and manipulation. “From the moment of arrests to court hearings, the so-called trials are based on deceit. Even the official court transcripts are being falsified, which has gained increasing attention recently,” he said.

“While the Armenian authorities speak of constructive dialogue and optimism, people are being prosecuted and pressured in Azerbaijan. At the same time, the fate of many others remains unknown,” Abrahamyan concluded.
