Sculptor of Aznavour statue welcomes diverse opinions

Sculptor David Minasyan has completed legendary French-Armenia singer Charles Aznavour's statue after a year and a half of dedicated work. The statue was unveiled in Yerevan's Charles Aznavour Square on Friday.

“Creating a sculpture takes a long time,” Minasyan told reporters. “Aznavour is depicted mid-performance, singing La Bohème. He’s suspended in the air, held aloft by the hands of his audience. Everyone is lifting him upward. I intentionally designed the piece without a pedestal.”

Minasyan noted that during the creative process, he felt a profound connection to the artist. “It felt as though I came to know Aznavour personally,” he said.

The sculpture has sparked mixed reactions. Minasyan welcomed both praise and criticism, saying: “I’m aware of the mixed opinions – it’s natural. When a work of art provokes differing views, it means it has come to life. That’s a sign that something has resonated.”
