Former Armenian MP Ruben Hakobyan, a member of the opposition Hayastan alliance, has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months.
The news was confirmed by his son, Samvel Hakobyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council, in a social media post on Saturday.
Samvel Hakobyan accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of ordering his father's detention, denouncing the move as politically motivated.
“People like you will always fear a true Armenian man,” he wrote. “You will be held accountable. Your rule is not eternal. In the end, it is the truth that prevails, everything else is temporary.”
Ruben Hakobyan has been charged with making public calls to seize power in Armenia.
