Over 100 evacuated amid residential building fire in Armenian town

A fire broke out at a residential building in Abovyan, a town in Armenia’s Kotayk Province, on Saturday morning.

The Rescue Service of the Interior Ministry received an emergency call reporting smoke and flames emanating from Building 64 in the town's 4th Microdistrict at around 10:15am.

According to Shamshyan.com, two fire and rescue crews and a ladder truck were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters, along with the Abovyan mayor and patrol officers, evacuated more than 100 residents, including children and elderly people, from the building. The fire, which had started in the electrical meters on the building’s fifth floor, was quickly extinguished.

A medical team from Abovyan Medical Center provided on-site assistance to several residents, who declined hospitalization.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
