UV radiation poses serious health risks, experts warn

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, particularly intense during sunny summer days, can have a range of harmful effects on human health. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight without proper protection significantly increases these risks.

According to Armenia’s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, UV radiation can cause sunstroke and significantly raise the risk of developing skin cancer. It can also cause blisters, itching and swelling of the skin.

Authorities are urging the public to take protective measures, especially between 11:00am and 5:00pm, when UV radiation reaches its peak intensity.

Recommended precautions include:

  • Avoid direct sunlight during peak hours.

  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, long-sleeved clothing to minimize skin exposure.

  • Use wide-brimmed hats to protect your head and face.

  • Apply sunscreen regularly.

  • Wear UV-protective sunglasses.

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

  • Choose easily digestible foods and avoid spicy or pickled dishes.
