Authorities probing Armenian border guard's death

A criminal investigation has been launched into the death of a young soldier from Armenia’s National Security Service Border Guard Troops, Investigative Committee spokesperson Kima Avdalyan confirmed to Panorama.am on Friday.

The investigation is being pursued under Article 522 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to causing a serviceman’s suicide through negligence. Authorities have initiated urgent investigative and procedural measures and a forensic medical examination has been commissioned to determine the exact cause of his death.

The incident occurred at a military unit in the village of Davit Bek in Armenia’s Syunik Province on Thursday. The deceased serviceman was 18 years old.
