Authorities confirm criminal investigation involving former Armenian mayor

The Armenian Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed former Etchmiadzin Mayor Diana Gasparyan's involvement in a criminal case into money laundering and abuse of office.

In response to an inquiry from RFE/RL’s Armenian Service, law enforcement authorities did not clarify whether Gasparyan and her mother-in-law, Ruzanna Asatryan, have been formally charged under the relevant articles. Officials stated that the investigation remains in the preliminary stages and declined to provide further details.

Citing unnamed sources, the news outlet reported that both women are defendants in the ongoing proceedings.
