Heatwave and high UV index to persist in Armenia

The Armenian Ministry of Environment has issued a warning for high ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels on July 29 and 30, particularly in the Ararat Valley, Syunik lowlands and Yerevan. Authorities urge the public to avoid exposure to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center reports that a wave of hot subtropical air from the south will raise temperatures across much of the country. From July 29 to August 3, daytime temperatures in the Ararat Valley, Vayots Dzor foothills, Syunik lowlands and Yerevan are expected to reach 38C to 40C. These areas, along with parts of Aragatsotn and Kotayk Provinces, will also face a high risk of wildfires.

Yerevan will experience mostly dry weather on July 29 and August 3. However, evening showers and thunderstorms are possible on July 30-31 and August 1-2, with wind gusts reaching 16-19 m/s during storms.

In other regions, scattered afternoon showers, thunderstorms and possible hail are forecast from July 29 through August 3. Winds will be westerly at 2-5 m/s, strengthening to 17-20 m/s during storms. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise further by 1-2C on July 29-30.
