Armenian soldiers rescue endangered bear cub

In early July, servicemen of Armenia’s Defense Ministry discovered an emaciated and helpless bear cub near the Vayots Dzor–Ararat border. They immediately alerted the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body.

The four-month-old Transcaucasian brown bear, listed in Armenia’s Red Data Book, was promptly transferred to the Zoo Fauna Rehabilitation Center in Yerevan for urgent care and medical treatment, the state agency reported.

After nearly three weeks of recovery, the cub was relocated to the Urtsadzor sanctuary of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets. There, it will continue receiving specialized care in a semi-natural environment, with the goal of eventually reintroducing it to the wild.
