Protest held in Yerevan over controversial construction permit and tree cutting

Activist Artur Chakhoyan and residents of Yerevan’s Nor Nork district blocked Gai Avenue on Monday to protest what they describe as the unlawful privatization of public land.

According to Chakhoyan, the disputed plot is classified as non-alienable land and includes an underground water pipeline, making its privatization illegal.

“Under unclear circumstances, the Yerevan Municipality has unlawfully alienated a land plot not subject to alienation. This act is illegal. Moreover, a construction permit issued by Mayor Tigran Avinyan has led to the felling of trees,” Chakhoyan told reporters during the protest.
