Armenian expert warns of new wave of phone scams

Information security and cybersecurity expert Samvel Martirosyan has issued a warning about a fresh wave of phone scams targeting the public.

“A new wave of scams is emerging,” Martirosyan wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. “Fraudsters are calling potential victims while posing as representatives of telecommunications companies offering to ‘activate’ 5G services, or as bank employees. In all cases, the goal is to trick victims into connecting via WhatsApp, performing certain actions or downloading applications."

He stressed that no legitimate company would ever make such requests and urged the public not to fall for such schemes.
