Mirzoyan: No obligation to change Armenia's constitution in Washington talks

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that Washington negotiations with Azerbaijan did not involve Armenia’s constitution and that Yerevan has no obligation before any third party to amend it.

In an interview with the Pubic TV Company on Wednesday, Mirzoyan emphasized that the Washington agreements affirmed the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with a formal peace treaty expected to follow. He underscored that all infrastructure routes passing through Armenian territory will remain under Armenia’s sovereignty.

The minister also stressed that some sovereign Armenian territories are under Azerbaijani control, while certain Azerbaijani territories remain under Armenian control.

His comments come after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statement that an official peace agreement has not been signed because Armenia’s constitution still includes a provision questioning Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Aliyev said the treaty will be finalized once constitutional changes are made.
