Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has strongly dismissed the Armenian leadership’s claims that constitutional changes are not being made under pressure from Azerbaijan.
“The Armenian leaders, most recently the foreign minister, continue to claim that the constitution is not being amended at Baku’s demand. Is there a single person in Armenia who believes this blatant lie? No, there isn’t,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
The Pativ Unem faction MP argued that the government’s strategy is to repeat such “nonsense” until part of society eventually accepts it, thereby enabling the authorities to "push it through".
“From domestic politics to foreign affairs, the ruling regime and its satellite forces seek to manipulate society with half-truths, lies and distortions in order to extend their grip on power,” the MP added.
