Analyst criticizes Pashinyan's statement on political choices

Political analyst Suren Surenyants has sharply criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent remark that “whether a path is right or wrong depends on where you are heading to.”

In a social media post on Thursday, the analyst called the statement “dangerous and misleading”, arguing that the validity of a political course should not be assessed solely by its intended outcome.

“The correctness of a path cannot be defined only by the final goal. If it leads to authoritarianism or national capitulation, it's wrong,” he wrote.

To support his view, Surenyants referred to philosophical principles. Citing Immanuel Kant, he emphasized the idea that actions should be guided by universal moral rules, not just by objectives. He also referenced Aristotle’s belief that excellence is formed through consistent practice rather than through end goals.

"Thus, rightness is determined by the course itself, not just by the endpoint," he stressed.

“The right path is one that is just, safe and dignified,” Surenyants said, rejecting the principle of "the end justifies the means" as a "straight path to authoritarianism".
