Opposition leader insists on Pashinyan's impeachment

Opposition MP Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the Pativ Unem faction, has renewed calls for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's impeachment, warning that his continued rule is bringing “disaster and irreversible consequences” to Armenia.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he stressed that change of power should happen before the 2026 parliamentary elections.

“I don’t really understand just sitting and waiting for the elections,” he said, insisting that impeachment is currently “the only realistic path” forward.

Mamijanyan stressed that the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), which is part of the Pativ Unem faction, remains committed to pursuing impeachment proceedings. He noted that success would require both unity among opposition forces and sustained public pressure.

“Street pressure is the decisive component in a no-confidence motion against the prime minister,” he said, adding that the first step is for all parliamentary opposition groups to join the effort.

Mamijanyan said his faction is still waiting for a response from the Hayastan bloc, stressing that joint action would fulfill promises made during the 2021 protests.

Asked whether the RPA will run in the 2026 elections if impeachment fails, Mamijanyan stressed that the party is not engaged in such discussions. “We are not fans of waiting for 2026, we are not members of a 2026 club. Our focus is solely on advancing the impeachment agenda,” he added.
