MP: Turkey and Azerbaijan don't want a strong Armenia

Opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Tigran Abrahamyan has criticized the recent meeting between Armenian officials and Turkey’s special envoy Serdar Kilic, calling the dialogue an “imitational process” lacking substance and clarity.

In a social media post on Saturday, Abrahamyan argued that Ankara shows no urgency in establishing diplomatic relations or genuine cooperation with Yerevan. He noted that even the much-discussed agreement to open the border for third-country citizens and cargo transit has remained unimplemented for two years.

According to him, while there is ongoing rhetoric about turning Armenia into a regional transit hub, Turkey continues to stall the restoration of the Gyumri-Kars railway. Instead, it prioritizes the newly announced Kars-Igdir-Nakhichevan route, which bypasses Armenia.

“Turkey and Azerbaijan do not want a strong and developed Armenia,” Abrahamyan said. “They want a country that merely serves their regional interests and functions as a tool to be used.”
