Pashinyan: CSTO regards Azerbaijan as 'brotherly' as Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) regards Azerbaijan as “brotherly” as Armenia and recognizes Baku’s territorial integrity.

Speaking at the Comprehensive Security and Resilience 2025 Conference in Yerevan on Monday, Pashinyan said Yerevan had long believed there might be room to interpret what the CSTO meant by Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed this position in November and December 2020, stating that Nagorno-Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan under international law and had always been considered as such.

“Thus, the alliance’s core security concept did not hold in the face of the Nagorno-Karabakh developments,” Pashinyan said.
