443 people caught driving drunk or without license in Armenia

Traffic police in Yerevan and Armenia’s regions recorded nearly 19,000 traffic violations between September 8 and 15, detaining dozens of people.

In the Armenian capital, officers registered 5,348 violations, impounding 170 vehicles. Among them were 208 drunk drivers and 235 people driving without a license. Other infractions included unbuckled seatbelts (1,320), smoking while driving (541), phone use behind the wheel (366), jaywalking (401) and various technical or documentation issues such as lack of insurance (40), no technical inspection (133), faulty headlights (78) and tinted windows (106). Police also detained 96 individuals for further checks.

In the regions, patrols uncovered 13,334 violations, impounding 255 vehicles. They included 239 drunk drivers, 432 unlicensed drivers and 3 using fake licenses. The most common violations were speeding (2,109), not wearing seatbelts (3,612), phone use while driving (631) and driving without insurance (408) or technical inspection (877). Authorities also detained 29 people.

Police say they will continue intensified checks to improve road safety.
