Opposition faction seeks no-confidence vote in Pashinyan

The opposition Pativ Unem faction in the Armenian parliament has circulated a draft statement calling for a vote of no-confidence in Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, citing “national crisis and governance failure”.

Faction leader Hayk Mamijanyan published the document on Tuesday, accusing Pashinyan’s government of straying from its own program, failing to address national challenges and instead creating new crises.

The document lists five main areas of failure:

• National Security: loss of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), ineffective response to Azerbaijan’s seizure of Armenian territories, inaction on Armenia prisoners held in Baku, abandonment of the Armenian Genocide recognition efforts.

• Foreign Policy: weakening Armenia’s global standing, making unilateral concessions under the guise of “peace”, deteriorating ties with traditional allies without alternatives.

• Democracy and Rights: political prisoners, erosion of judicial independence, restrictions on free speech and assembly.

• Corruption: systemic patronage, fake anti-corruption measures, state capture by loyal elites.

• Economy and Social Policy: lack of strategy, deepening inequality, worsening poverty and emigration and failure to support 140,000 displaced Artsakh Armenians.

The opposition faction insists that Pashinyan has “irreversibly lost his legitimacy” and his continued leadership poses an “existential threat” to Armenia. It urges all other political groups and civil society to support the no-confidence vote that would lead to the formation of a transitional government of national accord, restoration of rule of law and national solidarity, stabilization of security and conduct of free and fair elections.
