Artsakh parliament declares Sept. 19 Day of Forced Displacement and Demand for Justice
The Artsakh National Assembly has officially designated September 19 as the Day of Forced Displacement and Demand for Justice, introducing amendments to the law on holidays and memorial days.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale military offensive against the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) following a nine-month blockade. Alongside strikes on military objects and positions, Azerbaijani forces shelled civilian settlements.
The attacks left 223 people dead, including 20 civilians, six of whom were children.
On September 20, Artsakh’s authorities, under mounting pressure, accepted a ceasefire proposal brokered by the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. Artsakh was depopulated as 120,000 Armenians were forcibly displaced from their ancestral homeland.
