Heavy rainfall in Armavir and Ararat exceeds monthly norms

Armenia saw widespread heavy rainfall on September 19 as an active cyclone swept across the country, bringing a sudden surge of precipitation to nearly all regions.

In Shirak Province, rainfall reached up to 96 percent of the monthly average in just one day. Lori and Tavush received 43-50 percent of their monthly totals, while Kotayk, Gegharkunik, and Aragatsotn saw 55-75 percent. The heaviest downpours were recorded in Ararat and Armavir Provinces, where rainfall hit 50 to 103 percent of the monthly norm. Vayots Dzor and Syunik saw 30-50 percent and the capital, Yerevan, up to 68 percent.

Forecasters say the rain will continue in some parts of Armenia through September 22. Dry weather is expected across the country starting September 23.
