Turkey and Azerbaijan seek to 'absorb' Armenia, expert warns

Turkey and Azerbaijan are working to put Armenia’s statehood in complete dependency, and possibly even “completely absorb it”, according to political analyst Varuzhan Geghamyan.

“There is no serious intention of peaceful coexistence with Armenia in either Baku or Ankara,” Geghamyan wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "Turkey and Azerbaijan are exerting unprecedented influence over Armenia’s authorities, The so-called reforms in education, the army and national symbols are essentially aimed at weakening the already fragile state and ultimately dismantling it."

He accused Armenia’s leadership of prioritizing power over sovereignty. "The authorities are ready to maintain power even as a fully dependent regime of Turkey," the expert said.

Geghamyan dismissed talks of a “Fourth Armenian Republic” as a cover. “This agenda is not about building another Armenia, it’s about turning us into a Turkish province," he stated.

“Can we restrain our enemies? Yes. Ankara and Baku know this. The real question is whether we recognize that we are strong enough," Geghamyan added.
