Judge Armine Meliksetyan of Yerevan’s First Instance General Jurisdiction Court has retired to the deliberation room in the case of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan. The verdict will be delivered at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese, was arrested on June 28 and has since remained in custody, with his detention extended several times.
He faces charges under Article 422, Part 2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to public calls aimed at usurping power, violating territorial integrity, renouncing sovereignty, or violently overthrowing the constitutional order.
