Opposition leader: Azerbaijan must be held accountable for Artsakh genocide

Azerbaijan would not have been able to win the 2020 war in Artsakh had years of negotiation potential not been squandered and talks suspended, Armenian opposition MP and former defense minister Seyran Ohanyan said on Saturday, marking the fifth anniversary of the 44-day war.

Speaking at Yerevan’s Yerablur Military Pantheon, Ohanyan, who heads the Hayastan opposition faction, stressed that the Artsakh issue remains unresolved.

“The conflict has only deepened due to criminal actions; it has not ended. Azerbaijan must be held internationally accountable for acts of genocide,” he said.

Ohanyan emphasized that restoring Artsakh’s sovereignty is essential. “If these two conditions are met, negotiations have no alternative,” he added.

He also criticized the Armenian leadership for agreeing to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group under pressure from Azerbaijan. “It effectively confirms that the Artsakh chapter is closed for them,” Ohanyan added.
