SRC foils attempt to smuggle 78 kg of medicine into Armenia

The State Revenue Committee (SRC) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 78 kilograms of medicine into Armenia through a hidden compartment in a vehicle.

In a press release on Wednesday, the SRC said the incident took place at the Bagratashen border crossing a few days ago. During an inspection, customs officers found a specially modified, homemade hiding space in the rear of a vehicle. The car was taken for a detailed examination, which revealed a large quantity of pharmaceuticals, along with empty medicine boxes.

Authorities estimate the market value of the seized goods at more than 15 million drams. The driver had attempted to smuggle the cargo to evade customs controls and related obligations.

Legal proceedings have been launched under Armenia’s customs law and the case has been forwarded to the SRC Legal Department for further investigation.
