Lawyer seeks recusal of prosecutors in Armenian archbishop case

Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan’s attorney has formally requested the recusal of prosecutors in the high-profile case, arguing that key evidence has been manipulated to distort conversations and support false accusations.

At a court hearing on Thursday, Galstanyan’s lawyer, Hovhannes Khudoyan, argued that audio recordings submitted as evidence had been selectively edited, stripping discussions of their proper context. He said the altered excerpts were later cited in official statements, media interviews, and even parliamentary speeches, accusing the prosecution of attempting to conceal its own errors.

Addressing the court, Galstanyan, who has been detained on terrorism and coup plot charges, called the prosecutors “defamers”. He also stated that over the past three months, he had addressed questions directly to the chief prosecutor and the Investigative Committee head, but had not received adequate responses.
