Mayor marks Gyumri Day, condemns conviction of its spiritual leader

Gyumri marked its 22nd City Day on Friday, celebrating the city’s enduring spirit and cultural heritage. In his official message, Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan extended congratulations to all residents and friends of Gyumri, Armenia's second largest city.

“This day belongs not only to our beloved Gyumri but also to everyone who loves the city, respects its people, values its traditions and culture,” the mayor said. “Gyumri and its residents continue to write the city’s living history, one that embraces both festive moments and difficult days.”

Ghukasyan also condemned the conviction of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, the leader of the Shirak Diocese, calling him “a faithful servant of God and a patriot imprisoned by the ‘Pilates’ of the judicial system for expressing sincere concern about the country's fate.”

“I know Archbishop Ajapahyan is with us in spirit, remaining steadfast and strong,” the mayor added.

Reaffirming his administration’s focus on Gyumri’s development, Ghukasyan promised tangible progress in the near future. “Our daily efforts are aimed at improving the lives of Gyumri’s residents and advancing the city’s growth,” he said. “Your trust gives me the strength to continue on this path.
