Pro-government MP's wife sees sharp income rise after appointment as HayPost CEO

Since Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan came to power, many members of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party have not only secured influential positions themselves, but also helped their spouses obtain lucrative posts in state-linked companies.

One prominent case is Shushan Aleksanyan, the wife of Civil Contract MP Hayk Konjoryan. In November 2023, she was appointed CEO of HayPost CJSC, Armenia’s national postal operator, after previously leading one of its departments.

Media reports suggest that Aleksanyan earns around 3 million drams per month, though HayPost has declined to confirm or deny the figure. When asked for clarification by Panorama.am, the company pointed only to the official income declarations of public officials and their family members, without disclosing her current salary.

According to Aleksanyan’s 2024 declaration, her total income reached 67.3 million drams. Of this, she received about 11.5 million drams from HayPost in salary and related payments, plus another 5.2 million drams under “other income”. This marks an increase of roughly 6.2 million drams compared to 2022.

If the rise is linked to her promotion as CEO in late 2024, her current monthly salary now exceeds 4 million drams, well above earlier reports.

Notably, Aleksanyan’s cash savings also grew significantly from 2.5 million drams at the start of 2023 to 7.5 million drams by the end of 2024.
