Authorities probing fire at Yerevan landfill

A criminal investigation has been launched into the large fire at Yerevan’s Nubarashen landfill under Article 369 (Part 1) of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to the violation of safety rules for handling hazardous chemical materials or waste, the Investigative Committee told Panorama.am on Saturday.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan earlier said the blaze was deliberate, adding that he had discussed the matter with the heads of the National Security Service and the Interior Ministry.

Avinyan vowed that those responsible would be held accountable and announced the introduction of stricter controls on entry and exit at the landfill site.
