Armenia reports 70 Covid cases in two weeks

Armenia recorded 70 new Covid-19 cases over the past two weeks, a rate of 2.4 cases per 100,000 people, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention said on Monday. The figure is slightly lower than the previous two-week period, when 72 cases were recorded.

The recently detected Stratus variant, first identified in Canada on January 27, has been classified by the World Health Organization as a coronavirus strain “under monitoring” since late June.

The XFG Stratus variant has been reported in 38 countries, including in Europe and the United States, with particularly high activity in Southeast Asia. One distinctive symptom linked to this strain is voice change or hoarseness.

Current data show that hospitalizations and severe cases are most common among the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions.
