MP: 2020 war report confirms Pashinyan bears main responsibility for national tragedy

Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the Pativ Unem faction states the preface and conclusion of the report by the parliamentary commission investigating the 44-day war make it clear that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan bears the main responsibility for the disastrous outcome of the 2020 conflict.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Abrahamyan suggested that the document appears to have been written or edited by Pashinyan himself, arguing that its terminology and accusations closely mirror the rhetoric long used by him and pro-government media over the past years.

According to him, the government’s reluctance to publish the report in full further demonstrates an attempt to conceal accountability. “Even in this document, despite efforts to spread blame among the army and various internal or external forces, it is clear that the main culprit of the tragedy and the subsequent chain of defeats is Pashinyan,” Abrahamyan wrote.

According to the MP, crucial phases of the war are either briefly covered or deliberately omitted, as the government seeks to hide its “delayed and misguided” military and diplomatic decisions that pushed Armenia toward defeat.

Abrahamyan stressed that while the report mentions instances of units abandoning positions or disobeying orders, it also confirms that the Armenian army fought courageously, often under vastly unequal conditions.

“With such a dedicated army, defeat could only occur due to catastrophic failures of the political leadership, misjudgment of the military situation, diplomatic setbacks and actions undermining national security,” he stated.
