Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said that discussions with Azerbaijani officials on the release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku took place at a recent meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Yerevan with Finnish Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Elina Valtonen on Tuesday, Mirzoyan noted that while significant progress has been made in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, several key issues remain unresolved.
“One of the unresolved issues – perhaps the most important one – is the release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku,” Mirzoyan said.
He emphasized that the Armenian government continues to work on the matter on a daily basis, even though its efforts are not always visible or immediately effective.
“Otherwise, the issue would have been resolved long ago,” he added. “We continue our efforts and I want to express hope that we will have good news in the near future. Just yesterday, we once again discussed the matter with our Azerbaijani counterparts in Sharm El-Sheikh. Hopefully, our efforts will yield positive results soon.”
