Armenian mayor accused of assaulting local resident

Armenian police have launched a criminal investigation into allegations that Spitak Mayor Kajayr Nikoghosyan assaulted a local resident.

Shamshyan.com reports that 34-year-old Gagik E. from Lori Province claimed he was attacked by the mayor after complaining about water supply issues in his village of Karadzor.

The incident reportedly took place inside the Spitak Municipality building, where the resident and his wife had gone to raise the issue. The man told police that during the dispute, the mayor insulted him and kicked him three times, causing physical pain.

Police in Spitak have compiled the case materials and forwarded them to the regional investigative department for a further probe.
