Police continue to guard Gyumri mayor's office

Police continued to guard the office of detained Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan on Tuesday, his advisor Lilit Aghekyan said, adding more searches are planned there.

Officers from Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) raided the Gyumri City Hall on Monday, damaging its property, including the windows. Metal sheets and plastic coverings have since been installed and municipal work has resumed.

Ghukasyan was ordered into two months of pretrial detention by a Yerevan court earlier in the day. Four other municipal officials were also remanded in custody.
