29 charged over 'mass disturbances' in Gyumri

Armenian authorities have charged 29 people following Monday's clashes outside the Gyumri City Hall.

According to the Investigative Committee, the unrest broke out on October 20 as investigators from the Anti-Corruption Committee carried out searches inside the municipal administration building. A crowd reportedly gathered to block the investigation, surrounding the entrances and clashing with police officers.

Protesters are accused of damaging municipal property, slashing the tyres of a police vehicle and throwing bottles and lighters at officers. Some allegedly shouted insults and used violence to disrupt the investigators’ work.

In total, 37 people were detained. Nineteen have been charged with taking part in "mass disturbances" and obstructing justice, while ten others face charges of inciting unrest and interfering with the investigation.

The preliminary probe is underway.
