Pashinyan says Armenia-Turkey border could open soon

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that Armenia’s ongoing “positive dialogue” with Turkey could soon lead to the opening of their shared border.

Speaking at the Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi on Wednesday, Pashinyan stated that Armenia is ready both politically and technically to allow the transit of Turkish and Azerbaijani trucks across its territory via the Margara-Yeghegnadzor-Sisian-Goris route.

He added that while Armenia is politically prepared to enable transport between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, technical infrastructure is still lacking. The same applies to potential rail links connecting Turkey, Nakhichevan and Azerbaijan, which he said could be restored within two to three years.

Pashinyan also said future plans include building pipelines and power transmission lines through Armenian territory, connecting Azerbaijan, Nakhichevan and Turkey.
