Ruling party MP’s mother-in-law detained during protest in support of Gyumri mayor

The mother-in-law of Karen Sarukhanyan, an MP from Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, has been detained for obstructing law enforcement officers during the arrest of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan on 20 October, journalist Suzi Badoyan revealed.

The woman, which joined a protest in support of Ghukasyan outside the Gyumri City Hall, reportedly attempted to intervene in an effort to prevent the mayor’s detention "ordered by his son-in-law’s boss".
