Gyumri mayor expresses support for those detained outside City Hall

The mayor of Gyumri, Armenia’s second-largest city, has expressed solidarity with those detained during Monday’s protest outside Gyumri City Hall. Dozens of demonstrators were detained amid a protest sparked by the arrest of the city’s opposition mayor.

“Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan expresses his full support for all those deprived of liberty as a result of the repressive and unlawful actions carried out on the premises and in the vicinity of the Gyumri City Hall on October 20,” the municipality said in a statement on Saturday.

The mayor likewise extended his backing to the Gyumri City Hall employees, who are facing prosecution unjustly.

“Families of those affected by these repressive measures, as well as individuals unjustly charged, may seek free legal assistance from attorney Zaruhi Postanjyan, a member of the Armenian Chamber of Advocates,” reads the statement.
