Armenian MP: Azerbaijan also used starvation as a weapon during Artsakh blockade
Opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Tigran Abrahamyan has accused Azerbaijan of using starvation as a weapon of war during the blockade of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), drawing parallels with the current situation in Gaza.
Commenting on the UN International Court of Justice’s reminder to Israel that starvation cannot be used as a weapon, Abrahamyan said in a social media post on Monday that the same principle applied to the nine-month blockade of Artsakh, when its population was deprived of food, water, fuel and electricity, with hospitals unable to operate properly.
He stressed that Azerbaijan used the blockade not only as a weapon, but also as preparation for a large-scale attack on Artsakh in 2023. He accused Armenia’s leadership of effectively greenlighting the assault and condemned the international community for “turning a blind eye” to it, which led to “a new genocide against the Armenian people”.
“This is what the old and new world order looks like – the law of the jungle,” he wrote.
